What is Reiki?
Reiki – the Healing Touch
Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It was discovered by Dr. Mikao Usui in the early 1900’s. Reiki is administered by “laying on hands” and techniques such as this have been practiced for thousands of years. Reiki is a very simple yet powerful technique. The word “Rei” means universal. The word “Ki” means life energy. Therefore, Reiki is “Universal Life Energy”.
Reiki is the God-Consciousness that guides life energy. So, Reiki can be described as “spiritually guided life energy”. When a person (or animal) receives a Reiki Treatment, the “Rei” or “God-Conscious” part of the energy assesses where the person (or animal) has blocks and then directs the healing energy accordingly.
We are alive because life energy or “Ki” is flowing through us. “Ki” flows within the physical body through pathways called chakras, meridians and nadis. It also flows around us in a field of energy called the aura. The free and balanced flow of “Ki” is the cause of health. It is “Ki” that animates the physical organs and tissues as it flows through them. “Ki” nourishes the organs and cells of the body, supporting them in their vital functions. When the flow of “Ki” is disrupted, it causes diminished functioning within one or more of the organs and tissues of the physical body. Therefore, it is the disruption in the flow of “Ki” that is the main cause of illness.
When a blockage of “Ki” is released, and the “Ki” is flowing naturally, the physical organs and tissues are then able to complete their healing process.
While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. It has no dogma, and there is nothing you must believe in order to learn, use or receive Reiki. In fact, Reiki is not dependent on belief at all and will work whether you believe in it or not. Because Reiki comes from God, it enables many people to go beyond intellectual concepts and directly experience their religion.
